PIR (Protein Information Resource) -- International Protein Sequence Database contains information concerning all naturally occurring, wild-type proteins whose primary structure (the sequence) is known. The goal of the database project is to provide a comprehensive, nonredundant database organized by homology and taxonomy. In addition to sequence data, the database contains information concerning:
- 1.the name and classification of the protein and the organism in which it naturally occurs;
- 2.references to the primary literature, including information on the sequence determination;
- 3.the function and general characteristics of the protein; and
- 4.sites and regions of biological interest within the sequence.
