Natural products
- Natural products databases range from those which contain simple,
small molecules to those containing large, complex, poorly-described
formulations and plant extracts.
- For small molecules, the informatics problem is essentially the same
as with chemical information databases except for slightly different fields
(e.g., preparation by extraction and purification rather than by synthesis).
- For complex formulations, a textual description of composition can
sometimes be augmented by specification of primary or active components.
as with chemical information databases except for slightly different fields
- A promising approach is to further augment composition data with related
compounds for use in searching by analogy.
