LIMS data
- Laboratory information management systems seem to invariably manage
data in ways which are isolated from mainstream information management.
- One reason is that LIMS entities are things like "Brown's Sample 1234"
or "Unknown #12345" which are difficult to identify in other than a local,
arbitrary manner.
- Another reason is that LIMS manufacturers are market-driven to produce
turnkey solutions and have little motivation to produce interoperable
systems.
- There seems to be an opportunity to develop LIMS systems which are
fundamentally integrated into the chemical information universe.
Such systems could benefit greatly by leveraging WWW interfaces and
database technology.
