Thor: Merging

Pre-4.42: Merging was done in the Thor Toolkit (i.e. by the client, using data supplied by the server). This resulted in lots of data moving between the client and server.

New 4.42 features:

• Merging is done by the Thor server.

• Old merging code still supported for backwards compatiblity with 4.41 client programs.

Result:

• Merging TDTs is much faster, typically 3 to 4 times.
