Getting Data to the People Who Need It

ABSTRACT

An ongoing challenge for informatics specialists in the biotech community is to make the data in a relational database available to scientists. At Anadys, we've developed a web-based search and reporting system that lets users browse an explorer-style tree of all available data, build search queries using a shopping-cart paradigm, and construct both searches and reports from any combination of fields in a relational database. This system is easy to use, easy to maintain, generic, and fast. This presentation describes the SQL-construction methods, metadata representations, and application interfaces we used to create this system.
